New Baby Cont'd

We got to go see Connor yesterday. Boy is he a cutie! Thankfully, he was out of the NICU, but he had little "sunglasses" on and was under UV lights for jaundice. Made me think of Dain's first week at home, which was spent on a billi-bed to help him get over his jaundice. Josh and Katt are doing well and LOVE being new parents! Hopefully next time we see Connor we'll get to hold him. Dain thought visiting was fun also... he got to explore Katt's hospital room and thought it would be funny to call the nurse (who did NOT think it was funny).

New Baby!!!!

I am happy to announce the birth of our new nephew, Connor Lee! He was born May 29th, 2008 at 4:07 pm. He weighed 7 lbs, 13 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long. Congratulations to new mommy and daddy Katt and Josh!
He does have to spend a little time in the NICU to make sure his lungs are ok, but from all that I've heard he's going to be just fine.
Mommy and daddy are doing well also.

I have a friend and former roommate from college, Kristen, who is going through a very hard time right now. She and her husband Peter are in danger of losing their little girl Vivain, who was born prematurely in January. Vivian's entire life has been spent in the NICU of the hospital where she was born. Glasses

Update on Dain's glasses:

At Dain's appointment with the eye doctor yesterday, his eyes were doing pretty well staying straight, except for when he concentrated on things up close. So, Dr. P decided to widen his tape a bit more to force his eyes outward. Dr. P commented that Dain seems to be more curious than most kids his age. Usually kids zone in that closely at 2 or 3, not 14 1/2 months. There is a little bit of talk of adding in bifocals so that Dain can more easily look at things close up. (I had bifocals as a small child as well.)
As an aside, Dr. P started treating me for crossed eyes when I was 3 (see my very first post for pictures) so I know he's one of the best! (Meaning, my eyes don't cross anymore.) :)

Can we go fishing, dad?

Today while Jeremy and I were working on some landscaping, Dain wandered into the garage and found the oars to our canoe. Jeremy uses the canoe solely for fishing trips. Dain drug those oars all over the place! He was having quite a bit of fun with them.

Steven Curtis Chapman

Today I learned about the tragic accident affecting the Christian singer Steven Curtis Chapman and his family. On Wednesday, his adopted 5 year-old daughter, Maria Sue, was accidentally struck and killed by a car that one of her teenage brothers was driving. I cannot imagine the sorrow that this family is feeling right now. Please pray for the Chapman family that God will give them peace and comfort!

Unexpected Visitor

Yesterday, I heard a "scritch-scratch" in the laundry room. I had assumed that one of the cats got behind the dryer and was having trouble getting out. Nope, both of them asleep on the couch. So I forgot about the noise. Today, I heard it again. Both cats accounted for. So I climbed on top of the dryer and looked behind it. Nothing - but I heard the noise again. Something was caught in the dryer hose? Gross - maybe there's a mouse in there! Don't want to run the dryer-ew! So when my hubby got home I asked him to check it out. He pulled out the dryer, unhooked the hose, and looked inside. Nothing in the hose except a little lint. Heard the noise again. Something was in the dryer! Hubby looked inside, asked for 2 large bowls and a spatula, poked around and out flew a sparrow! It must have flown in through the dryer vent. It tried to fly out the window. Hubby caught it in between the 2 bowls, and then we set it free!

Another Happy Anniversary!

Today is my brother-in-law Josh and his wife Katt's 2nd anniversary. Just wanted to say I love you both, congratulations, and I hope that baby comes out soon! (He's taking his time, isn't he?)

Good (or bad?) hair day

Well- looks like Dain decided to do his own hair. He told me he worked on it all night.

Happy Anniversary!

Today is our 6th wedding anniversary! We had a nice time. After church, my parents watched Dain while Jeremy and I went on our 2nd date since Dain was born. (Our previous date was on our 5th anniversary last year.) We went to go see the movie Prince Caspian, since we were big fans of the first Narnia movie. If you are a Chronicles of Narnia purist, you will be disappointed as the movie deviates quite a bit from the book. (World Magazine's May 17/24, 2008 issue has a very good review of the movie.) However, we did enjoy the movie very much. It's our first movie in the theater for at least 2 years! It was nice to go on a date with my husband. We don't get enough of them!

Here is a picture from when Jeremy and I went to my high school's homecoming during my senior year, shortly after we met. Boy, were we skinny back then!

Later, after we came home, poor Dain fell and bonked his little head pretty hard while running around on our driveway. A little tylenol and some cuddling from mom seemed to help get him calmed down and ready for bed. He'll have a nice bruise and a goose-egg in the morning though!

We also spent part of the afternoon working on landscaping, putting down some mulch. Our back yard seems like a never-ending project! As soon as the hard parts are done, I'll post some pictures.

Backyard Bliss and more

Hooray! Today we put sod in our new back yard. Although we knew that when you buy a new house, landscaping is part of the expense, but laying 700 square feet of sod is a lot of work! Good thing my sweet husband (who now has a very achy back) did most of the work. I was helping him to lay it when Dain woke up. Dain had one of those messy diapers where the baby just goes straight into the tub! By the time we got outside, Jeremy was already mostly done.
I also had to go swimsuit shopping today. Not fun at all! But, since the last time I bought a suit was before I got married 6 years ago, it was time. We joined a summer swim club that opens on Memorial Day, so I figured I might as well tough it out and go shopping. I ended up buying 2. I was able to justify it by the fact that I'm planning on going to the pool every day this summer, unless the weather is bad. No one will really see me in my suit anyway, since most of the time I'll be in the water, right? ;)

Today is my first day to blog!

Well - everyone seems to be doing it, so I thought I would too. Time for me to blog! Seems a great way to keep friends and family in the loop with our lives. So here we go!

Today I took Dain to the eye doctor again. He's been wearing glasses for about 3 months. He is very far-sighted and has crossed eyes. We've been trying him on a stronger prescription (a +9) to see if that would help his eyes relax and not cross. Didn't work as well as we liked, so today we had tape put on his glasses. He looks so cute in them! Brings back memories of when I was a kid and had the same problem... and also had to wear tape on my glasses. We go back in a week so see if we need to widen the tape to help him un-cross even more.
